Au pair Shantel in Zimbabwe
Dear Host Family
Introduction Video Link: 654v1x0c
Personality Test Results: 654v1x0c
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope this letter you will get to know me better.
My name is Shantel , I live in Zimbabwe in the beautiful city of Bulawayo. I live with my mother, Sithembile (49) who is self-employed. My father, Vusumuzi (53) and my brother Denzel (26) live in South Africa, Cape Town. My father is a teacher and my brother works at an Internet Café. We are a close family even with the distance we may be apart but never in heart.
I live in a small suburb called Pumula South, it’s a very close-knit community people go to the same churches, there are many schools around and we have one clinic. People are very helpful and are very quick to assist if a member of the community is in need.
I would describe myself as a people person, I like to meet different people. I am efficient and organized which makes me very productive. I believe that I am kind and loving, I put other people’s needs before my own. I am warm and very responsible. I am decent and very polite.
I have 2073 hours of childcare experience, I first took care of Praise Sungi the son of a church member. I began taking care of him in February 2021, 3 months after he was born. Praise was 4 months old at the time. My duties were to give him a bath, feed him, change his diaper and playtime. I would also read some children’s stories to him like Winnie the Pooh.
I also took care of Omphile Ndiweni my neighbour’s son. He was 18 months at the time, my duties were to feed him, playtime, change him, bathe him and put him to sleep for his afternoon nap. I looked after Omphile for 5 months whilst his mother would go to work and come back in the evenings. Recently I volunteered to look after another neighbour’s son, Delight. My duties were the same, I would feed him and have lots of playtime with him and change him as well.
Looking after these 3 was such a joy for me, I wasn’t just their babysitter but I was a big sister and a mom to them, especially Praise. They were my best friends; I didn’t look at taking care of them as a task but as a responsibility. Till now Praise sees me and he cries for me and that makes my heart melt.
The skills I have to offer as an Au Pair are my driving skills, I am a strong driver, I am fluent in English, and I have an A1 French certificate. I also am a good swimmer and I have first aid training in CPR, Accident and emergency care course certificates.
After I complete the au pair program my goal is to go to school to study Occupational therapy. An occupational therapist treats injured, ill or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. I want to study this field because I want to help people, I believe that helping people at their most vulnerable is a privilege.
I enjoy reading a good book one of my favourite self-help books is Good vibes Good life by Vex King. I like taking walks and hanging out with friends. I enjoy going for a swim when the weather allows and in my free time, I enjoy playing tennis. I also enjoy watching cartoons like Tinkerbell and the Smurfs.
I want to be an Au Pair abroad because it involves two things I am quite fond of; travelling and taking care of children so it really is the best of both worlds. The au pair program helps me become independent, self-reliant and confident. I would have the opportunity of learning a new language and experience a different culture.
I want to be an Au Pair because I love children, I find joy in being around children, and I’ve always wanted to be someone’s big sister unfortunately, that did not happen however I found an alternative by babysitting and I found joy in that.
Once again thank you for taking the time to read this letter, I hope you consider me to be part of your family and be a big sister to your children. I can’t wait to hear from you.
Yours sincerely
Shantel
