Dear host family,
My name is Sarah.
I thought a lot about how I would introduce myself and I found out that it is quite difficult to give you a good impression through a letter, but I’ll try my best to give you a clear image of who I am.
Let’s start with my age and family. I’m 18 years old since last September and I live together with my parents, my mom, Petra, who is currently 55 years old, and with my dad, Paul, who is 56 years old. I don’t have any brothers or sisters, although I do sometimes miss a sibling.
Next I’ll tell you about what I like to do in my spare time. I like to read, paint, knit, cook and bake, although you should not expect a five star meal, I do sometimes quite enjoy it. I also like to dance, I followed a class for a year with a friend, but I stopped. Now I still dance, but then at home. And I sometimes take care of a few pony’s, at times I also ride on the biggest one of them. Although it is not professional riding, I really do enjoy it. Furthermore I like to hike, jog, photograph and play board games with friends. This is not all I like, only it would be quite a long list if I write down every single activity that I once did and liked.
Let’s go on to the next subject I think you would like to know about; my experience with kids. Over the past few years I have spent time working with children of several ages.
A good example of my experience with kids is an internship at an afterschool care where they take the children outside every day. They only take them inside when it storms. During that internship I helped with different groups, one of younger kids, around the age of 4-5, and another group of kids between the ages of 8-12. I really enjoyed this week. I liked to work with children of various ages, and really loved the combination of children and nature. Especially playing with them in and with nature and meanwhile teaching them about the plants and other stuff they found. The other experience I want to share with you in this letter, is babysitting the daughter of my boss from the job I have in a restaurant. A very sweet girl from 8 years old, but she can be quite stubborn. I don’t really mind that actually, I like the challenge of getting her to do what she has to do but doesn’t want to do (without using force).
Following I would like to explain to you why I want to be an Au Pair, and what my expectations are. First of all, I really love children, they are still so pure and innocent. They remind me of happiness and laughter, and kind of remind me of the sun. And of course you can’t have sunshine without a little rain. I know children come with responsibilities and challenges but I sometimes like a challenge and I would like to learn and grow from those experiences. Furthermore, I like to play with them, to do arts and crafts, to bake something, to go outside and play with snow or play with other parts of nature, and maybe teach them a little bit in the process. I would like to read with them or help with homework (if they have any). To be a small part of their childhood and to be able to learn from each other. Although my love for children is a big reason why I want to be an Au Pair, I would also really like to discover a new country, a new culture. I would as well really like to learn a new language, get to know new people and get to know myself a little bit better.
I hope that with this letter I have given you a good impression of who I am. I am very excited to become an Au Pair. And I hope that when you choose me to be your Au Pair, we could get to know each other much better and build a great connection, and that I can become a part of your family during my stay as an Au Pair.
Love,
Ps: my first letter was a little too long, so if you choose to accept me then you can see the longer, more detailed letter with the documents.
